Dr. L. Paul Bernard

Dr. L. Paul Bernard is a distinguished mental health professional, educator, and author whose works inspire and empower readers of all ages. Holding a Ph.D. in Advanced Studies in Human Behavior, Dr. Bernard serves as an Associate Professor at Liberty University, where he teaches clinical counseling and social work courses. With a deep commitment to nurturing resilience, and compassionate minds, he has made an indelible impact on both academic and community spheres.

Dr. Bernard’s diverse authorship includes the beloved Be a Friend illustrated children’s book, along with the full Be a Friend: A Journey of Friendship and Growth for young adult readers, which emphasizes kindness and empathy as cornerstones of meaningful relationships. His “Champions of Character: Adventures in Courage, Compassion, and Service” is a captivating 14-book series that takes young readers on unforgettable journeys with inspiring figures from the Bible, highlighting virtues like courage, faithfulness, humility, and integrity through the lives of young or young-hearted heroes. In addition to his writing, Dr. Bernard has an extensive background in clinical and educational roles. He served as Director of the Clinical Training Program at a Christian Counseling Center, where he specialized in Trauma-Informed Care, Play Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. His work as a Licensed Professional Counselor focused on helping individuals overcome self-destructive behaviors and trauma.

Beyond academia, Dr. Bernard’s career includes impactful roles such as Founding Pastor of TEN27 Church, where he led the community from 2008 to 2020, and as a Licensed Mental Health Professional – School Counselor, providing essential crisis intervention and therapeutic support to students. His early work at a Foster Family agency focused on supporting children affected by neglect and abuse.
